SEC Faculty Travel Program

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) Faculty Travel Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. It gives faculty members from one SEC university the opportunity to travel to another SEC campus to exchange ideas, develop grant proposals and conduct research. Eligible faculty may request up to $1,000 to support travel to one of the Southeastern Conference institutions for the purpose of sharing research findings, planning or performing collaboration research, or proposal preparation for multi-institutional grants. SEC Faculty Travel Grant funds may be used to cover any travel related expenses for the PI, including but not limited to airfare, accommodations, and meals. Funds may not be used to support travel by anyone other than the PI.

For this program, faculty may propose travel to any of the following SEC universities:

  • Auburn ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø – Auburn, Alabama
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Florida – Gainesville, Florida
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Georgia – Athens, Georgia
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Kentucky – Lexington, Kentucky
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Mississippi (Ole Miss) – Oxford, Mississippi
  • Mississippi State ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø – Starkville, Mississippi
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Missouri – Columbia, Missouri
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Oklahoma – Norman, Oklahoma
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of South Carolina – Columbia, South Carolina
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Tennessee – Knoxville, Tennessee
  • ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø of Texas – Austin, Texas
  • Texas A&M ¾Å¾Å¸£ÀûÍø – College Station, Texas

Travel to satellite campuses of these institutions is not supported.

Review Criteria & Process

The Request for Proposals is announced during the Winter with a submission deadline on or about May 1. Applications should include

  1. Abstract of the proposed activity
  2. Brief biography of the PI
  3. Requested amount
  4. Letter of invitation from the host institution.

Proposals will be reviewed by members of the Council on Research, with each reviewer asked to evaluate the proposals on each of the following criteria. Reviews will then be compiled by the Office of Research & Economic Development for final consideration.

  • Scientific, scholarly, or artistic significance
  • Applicant qualifications
  • How well does the proposal address the goals of the SEC Faculty Travel Grant Program?
    • Enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC Universities
    • Exchange of ideas
    • Develop new grant proposals
    • Conduct research
  • Does the proposal address one or more of the institutional priorities?
